Jewelry Care
This is a guide of how you best can take care of your jewelry
When you buy from Maria Wiktorén Jewelry you always get 925 sterling silver and real solid gold. But even if we use the best materials on the market for jewelry making, we can't get away from the importance to take care of the pieces and care for them with love to give them a lifelong journey. Jewelry do get worn even if the materials are top quality, and especially rings that you wear everyday. Necklaces, earrings and bracelets are not exposed to the same tear and wear, but still important to give them care too!
Silver -
Oxidizing happens to silver more easily if you are not wearing you jewelry everyday and if you don't keep them in a jewelry box when you're not wearing them. Also if you use a lot of products like hair spray, make up and perfume that get's on your jewelry it can also makes oxidizing happen faster. So a great tip is to always put on your jewelry the last thing you do after a shower or make up ritual! But we all know it's not always fun to take on and off jewelry all the time. Sometimes we just want to live in them! If so, you can get yourself a silver dip (Hagerty Silver Foam is great) to clean your jewelry every now and then to get them shiny and remove any oxidation.
If you want to make a cleanse for your jewelry that removes both oxidation and dirt, use this method:
(Be careful if you have gemstones in your jewelry and don't use to hot water).
Take a bowl and cover the bottom with foil. Place your jewelry in the bowl and pour a few spoons with baking soda over the pieces, then you take hot (but not boiling) water and cover it. Let it soak for about 10 minutes before you rinse off in water an voila! Now they will be shiny and clean, ready to use!
Gold -
Gold is a very hard and durable material but still get scratches and with time it can need some reparation if not taking good care of, especially if it's a ring with gemstones. We recommend that once every other year, you leave your ring at a goldsmith who can take a look at the settings to see if the stones are safe or if the settings need a repair to hold the stones better in place. A goldsmith can also help you with scratches and polish the ring so it shines like new again! It's very important that you take off your jewelry when you doing something that can harm your pieces and especially if you have a ring with gemstones. Stones can get scratched and chipped even if it's a diamond or a hard gemstone like Sapphire. So garden work, cleaning with chemicals, work outs or other activities that can harm your jewelry could be a good time to take them off.
A fast cleaning tip for dull gemstones -
If you have gemstones in your jewelry and they become a little dull, you can take warm water, soap and a tooth brush and gently scrub the jewelry and the stones. And don't forget to scrub the stone from underneath if you have a claw setting! Dirt can easily get stuck underneath. This method will make the stone more clear again and the ring will look much more shiny overall!
